Net4 to offer Cards for ISD Calls at Re1
(The Economic Times, 3rd January, 2007)
AFTER STD Calls at Re 1 per minute, telecom users can now dial the US, UK Canada and over 40 other countries at just a rupee, per minute, the lowest ever rate for making international calls. Internet telephony firm Net4 is set to roll our pre-paid calling cards, which will allow users to call 44 countries using a dial-up or broadband (high speed internet) connection.
Beside Internet, Net4 subscribers need to have access to a PC or a VoIP (voice over internet protocol) device like an adapter. Those who don’t have a PC can buy an adapter which comes in the price range of Rs 1700 to Rs 3000 and can be connected to a telephone to make ILD calls.
Besides home users, the Net4 scheme will also benefit BPOs, whose business is primarily calls-based. Currently, the BSNL and MTNL tariff to the US, UK and Canada is Rs 7.20 per minute while that to other European countries is Rs 9.60 per minute. Sify offers calls to the US at Rs 1.99 per minute through its ‘i-ways’, which work on the lines of PCOs. Using Net4 cards, calls can be made to European countries as well as nations in South East Asia, South America and Australia at the flat rate.
“These cards, to be launched on Thursday under the One World brand, will be available in the denomination of Rs 100, Rs 250, Rs 500 and Rs 1000. They will offer full talktime, “Net4 CEO Jasjit Sawhney told ET. “ Users can now be connected at a fraction of the cost of an ILD call. The call can be made from PC by downloading a dialer or a VoIP adapter or from Net4 dealers and the company regional offices, “he said.
Net4 is also rolling out unlimited calling plans under the Silver, Gold and Diamond brand names. These will have validity of one month and will be available at Rs 2499, Rs 3499 and Rs 4999, respectively. While the Silver is targeted at home users and small businesses, Gold is for medium sized firms and Diamond is for corporates and BPOs. “Users can make unlimited calls in a month using these plans,” said Mr Sawhney.
Net4 is looking at over 1.5 lakh subscribers by 2007 end from its unlimited calls and One World plans. “These subscribers will give us an average revenue of at least Rs 500 per month and Net4 is eyeing a business of nearly Rs 4 crore per month from these two schemes,” he added. |
