Net4India announces 'Triple Play’ strategy
(HindustanTimes.com, 27th Jan 2004)

Net4India, a leading IP communications service provider, today announced commissioning of its Triple Play broadband network. This high-speed network will carry data, voice and video signals used for Internet, telephony and rich-media applications.

The service has been successfully tested in select metros, and by the year-end will be expanded to cover 10 cities. Net4India has about 5,000 end users signed for its broadband services in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai, and the number is expected to grow as the company expects the industry to see an inevitable boom in 2004. Industry estimates indicate 25 million broadband users in India by 2007.

"Ninty-nine per cent of Internet connections in South Korea are on broadband, while in China it is 20 per cent, in tune with the world average. The figure in India is presently at 5 per cent, but we expect a sharp rise as more and more dial-up subscribers shift to faster and affordable broadband solutions,” said Jasjit Sawhney, CEO, Net4India.

According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the availability of broadband at affordable prices will have a positive impact on the GDP. While the UK Government is hopeful of having 100 per cent broadband coverage by 2005, its counterpart in China has earmarked 60-80 million users by the same deadline.
