Net4India Plans Major Expansion In South

Chennai: Net4India is spreading its wings to the South in a big way. Apart from Internet connections, the company is looking at bringing its entire bouquet of services to the South through a network of POPs (points of presence). It also has plans to open Phonewala Telecentres - its Internet telephony booths - across the four states to popularise its usage.
“South India accounted for around 40 per cent of our Internet telephony business so far. This has encouraged us to expand our business here”, said Mr Jasjit Sawhney, chief executive officer of Net4India Ltd. Already about 250 cyber cafes in Chennai alone use only ‘Phonewala’ card, he said.

Since their launch in mid-April, the company has so far sold 2.5 lakh ‘Phonewala’ cards of various denominations and earned a revenue of Rs 3.5 crore.

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) is planning to open 20 POPs across the four southern states in the coming three to six months. These POPs would showcase all the services offered by the company, including hosting, voice, bandwidth leasing etc, apart from selling Internet access and telephony. These would be located mainly in non-metro business towns like Kochi, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Hubli. Bundling all its offerings including bandwidth, apart from additional margins to the franchisees is the company’s strategy to make inroads into the South, he said.

The first telecentre will be in Chennai, which is one of the three cafes the company is launching this week. By end of this fiscal, it is looking at opening 1,500 telecentres in - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Kolkata.
