The
Delhi based Internet Services Company, Net4India
is planning to enter international long distance
(ILD) telephony service business. The company
said it would invest around Rs 100 crore in
the new business.
Net4India's
decision comes close on the heels of the Richard
Li promoted Pacific Century CyberWork group
company, Data Access, saying it would enter
the ILD telephony business.
Data
Access - a category 'A' Internet service provider-
operates services in several Indian cities under
the NOW brand . Recently it also acquired the
subscriber base of BPL's ISP division.
Jasjit
Sawhney, chief executive of Net4India said:"We
will be going in for an ILD license and are
awaiting the final guidelines from the government
before we start fine-tuning the business plans".
Sawhney
said the company was in talks with several financial
institutions to raise part of the investment
required for the ILD foray.
The
company is also in talks with tier one and tier
two international telecom carriers (like AT&T
and Sprint) for involving them as strategic
partners in the venture.
The
proposed alliance with a global telecom carrier
would be a technical tie-up as Net4India was
looking for a partner which could provide for
call origination and termination in case of
international subscriber dialing (ISD) service,
Sawhney said.
Part
of the investments would come from internal
accruals."We will raise some money internationally
also which would go into setting up two more
gateways," Sawhney said.
