Additional Settings
While these settings are not essential, most people will
find them very useful
- Click on the "Tools" menu and select
"Options..."
- Select the "Checking Mail" Category
- Uncheck Send on check, which will stop Eudora
automatically sending mail when you check for new mail
- Check Save password, Eudora will remember your
mail password. Unchecking this option will make Eudora
prompt you for your password when connecting to the
mail server, if you have security concerns
- Select the "Sending Mail" Category
- Unchecking Immediate Send allows you to compose
mail while off-line and save them to be sent together.
To send waiting mail, open a connection and select "Send
Queued Messages" from the "File"
menu
- Select the "Attachments" Category
- Click the Attachment Directory: button and choose
a directory on your system. This will be the directory
where Eudora automatically decodes MIME attachments
to. You may wish to create a directory for this purpose
first.
Using Eudora with multiple mail accounts
It is possible under Windows to use one copy of Eudora to
access more than one mail account. When Eudora is loading
it reads two command line parameters. One is the mail directory,
the other the location of the .ini file, which stores your
account information. Look at this example:
c:\eudora\eudora.exe c:\mail c:\ini
Here the Eudora program is run from the Eudora folder in
the C: directory , the mail is stored in a folder called mail
and the .ini file in a folder called ini. It is also possible
to specify the same directory for mail and .ini file. E.g.
c:\eudora\eudora.exe c:\my-email c:\my-email
Using this technique you can create folders for each of your
accounts. The next step is to create an icon for each account
to run the program for the mailbox. Follow the instructions
below for your operating system:
Windows3.1x
- Open a Program Group for the Eudora icons
- Click on the Program Manager File menu and select New...
- Choose Program Item
- Click Browse, and select the eudora.exe file from the
relevant directory and click OK
- Add the directory location for the mail and .ini files
to the Command line. It should now read [c:\eudora\eudora.exe
c:\,<dir> c:\<dir>] where <dir> is the
directory(s) of your choice
- Click OK
- When you double click the new icon, Eudora will prompt
you to configure the program for your account.
You can repeat these steps to create icons for as many mail
accounts as you have
Windows '95
- Right click on Desktop
- Click New from the menu and select Shortcut
- Click Browse... and select eudora.exe file from the relevant
folder
- Click Finish to create the new icon
- Right click the icon and select Properties
- Choose the Shortcut tab near the top of the properties
window
- Add the directory location for the mail and .ini files
to the Command line in the Target box. It should now read
[c:\eudora\eudora.exe c:\,<dir> c:\<dir>] where
<dir> is the directory(s) of your choice
- Click OK
- When you double click the new icon, Eudora will prompt
you to configure the program for your account.
You can repeat these steps to create icons for as many mail
accounts as you have
It is also possible to copy the file EUDORA.INI into your
new directory.
If you do this then the Command line will read :
[c:\eudora\eudora.exe c:\,<dir> c:\<dir>\eudora.ini]
When you run this Eudora icon you will need to click the
Tools menu, select Options and re-enter the settings for the
mail account.
