Welcome to Net4India. The following step-by-step instructions
will take you through setting up and connecting onto Net4India
by configuring a Dial-Up Networking connection on your computer
using Windows NT4. It is highly recommended that before you
begin that you have your copy of the WindowsNT4 CD-ROM including
the Service Pack CD to hand as you may be asked for it.
If your machine is not stand-alone and is connected
to other machines around it, on a network, you should seek
advice from your systems administrator before continuing.
The following instructions are similar for Windows NT4
Server and Workstation.
Requirements
Microsoft Windows NT 4 (Server or Workstation)
Windows NT Installation CD
Internet Account with Net4India
User information sheet (provided with every new sign-up)
Verifying your Network settings
In order to proceed with setting up a Dial-up Networking connection,
you must first make certain that you have NT’s Network settings
correct.
Click the " Start" button,
select "Settings", and click on "Control
Panel"
Double Click on the "Network" icon in
the window that appears
Select the "Services" tab
at the top of the window, and ensure that the following
components are installed
Click on the "Protocols" tab, and ensure
you have only TCP/IP installed
Click on "Adapters" and ensure
there are no components installed
Click on "Bindings", and
make sure the bindings are set up as follows
Creating a Dial Up Networking Connection
Once your Network settings are configured successfully,
the following instructions will guide you through setting
up Windows NT dial up networking.
Double click "My Computer"
Double click "Dial up Networking" in the
window that appears
If you get a message ‘The Phonebook is Empty…’, click
"OK" to add a new entry, other wise click
"New" from the Dial Up Networking screen
When the New Phonebook Entry Wizard window is displayed,
enter 'Net4India' as the entry name and click on Next
Button. If this window does not appear, follow the instructions
for checking your configuration below, and ensure you enter
all the same details.
Check next to 'I am calling the Internet',
so a tick appears in the box, and click on "Next"
Ensure there is no tick in the box for Use Telephony
dialling properties, and enter the full number in the Phone
number: box -172412 and click "Next"
Click "Next" to finish the
setup wizard.
To finalise your connection setup, follow the
instructions for Checking Your Configuration, below, and ensure
all the settings are the same as displayed here.
Checking Your Configuration
In the Dial-Up Networking window, click on "More..".
and select "Edit entry and Modem Properties"
Select the "Basic" tab on the windows which
appears and check the settings are the same as below. Dial
using should read as the description of your modem.
Select the "Server" tab, ensure there are
ticks for only TCP/IP, Enable software compression and Enable
PPP LCP extensions. The Dial-up Server type should be set
to PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet
Select the "Script" tab and make certain
that "None" is selected
Select the "Security" tab, and make certain
that 'Accept any authentication including clear text'
is selected
Click "OK"
You should have the Dial Up Networking screen in front of
you with the newly created entry in Phonebook entry to Dial
field. Click " Dial", enter your member login
name and password, then click "OK" to open
a connection.
